The 9 best coffee machines of 2024, tested and reviewed

A coffee machine is an investment – especially if you want one with all the bells and whistles. Therefore, it is crucial to consider the type that suits your needs.

✔️ Enter: : There are several ways to make espresso using manual, semi-automatic, automatic, super-automatic and capsule machines, and each of them is available to the home barista.

• Manual machines
they require finely ground beans, which are poured into the cob and pounded. The filter is attached to the brew head and a lever is used to manually pull water through the grounds. This is the most adaptable method, but probably the most complex to master.

Semi-automatic machines they resemble manual machines in terms of preparation, but they operate with a button or knob that, instead of a lever, automates the flow of water, and the size of the brew can be controlled.

Vending machines
apply the button instead of the lever to brew espresso. The size of the espresso or coffee drink is automated and often programmable. This method provides more consistency than a manual or semi-automatic machine, making it very effortless to apply. This style typically scored highest in laboratory tests.

Super-automatic machines
they are a step above slot machines. In addition to automatic and programmable coffee sizing, they can also grind, measure and often tamp the beans for you. These were typically our favorite products in lab tests due to their all-around performance.

Capsule machines apply sachets filled with measured coffee to prepare espresso or other coffee drinks. They offer the greatest consistency and ease of apply.

✔️ Size: Consider how much space you need to allocate for a coffee machine. Those that are more customizable tend to be larger, while smaller ones tend to be simpler and have fewer brewing options.

✔️ Pressure: The amount of pressure exerted on coffee grounds is measured by BAR or barometric pressure. While some espresso machines will have up to 19 BAR, an espresso machine putting 7 to 11 BAR of pressure on the espresso will ensure good extraction.
