In Vancouver, British Columbia, 49th Parallel has blended two organic coffees for a balanced blend of chocolate and citrus. Medium roast, scorching chocolate and roasted chestnut come from San Cristobal, Mexico, paired with tangerine and Meyer lemon from Peru.
There’s nothing like a nice, crowd-pleasing mix around the holidays. And in keeping with their annual tradition, Brandwine Coffee has done just that. This year, Joyful Yeti features Costa Rican La Rosa and Colombian coffees with sweet, warming flavors of chocolate-covered marshmallows, maple syrup, and pizzelle.
Sometimes the best way to make a coffee blend is to start with two absolutely fantastic individual coffees. Camber has done just that with this year’s Cambrrrr Winter Blend (that’s four repeated uses of the letter “r”), which combines Ethiopia Suke Quto with Guatemala Bella Elizabeth for a blend that’s sweet, round and juicy – just right for this time of year.
Doma always gives its best when it comes to design, but coffee is not a secondary element here. “Winter Wonderland” combines coffees from Ethiopia and Mexico, creating an enchanting blend scented with cherry, baker’s spices and nutmeg. Even better with a little cream!
The 2023 edition of Equator’s annual holiday blend is, in brief,… Featuring gorgeous original artwork by renowned illustrator Michael Wertz, this bag combines washed and naturally processed coffee from the CODECH cooperative in Guatemala, Flor de Dalia, and the renowned Suke Quto from Ethiopian producer Tesfaye Bekele.
The Korean company Fritz Coffee returns with another version of its Christmas mix (To Santa). This year’s coffee is a blend of 45% Indian Kalledevarapura SLN795 and three different Costa Ricans: 25% Los Madrigales Caturra-Catuaí honey, 20% Herbazu Centroamericano honey and 10% Corazon de Jesus Milenio Natural Reposado. Contains notes of blackberries, blackcurrant jam, pomegranate, brown sugar and cocoa. And he even has the opportunity to come to Fritz Drip bags.
Don’t be afraid of black magic. Or at least medium murky. Swedish Gringo Coffee has created a luxurious and aromatic medium-dark roast coffee for the holidays. This is a mix of Kenya Nyakuru, Ethiopia Hafursa Yirgacheffe, Rwanda Nyamurinda and Brazil Fazenda IP. And if you want something hot, they have it version of the same mixture consisting of freshly ground cardamom, sweet orange peel and aromatic tonka beans.
A perennial favorite – reminiscent of city sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in holiday style – this year’s Rockefeller comes from Antigua, Guatemala and boasts notes of sticky dates and sweet papaya. $1 from every bag sold Rockefeller supports 9 million reasonsthe largest eatery in Modern York.
Approachable, delicious and non-denominational, this year’s Winter Solstice Blend from Madcap is a velvety blend of coffees from Kenya and Guatemala. Look for notes of cranberry, cocoa and shortcrust pastry. You can also prepare delicious espresso from this coffee, so if you have an espresso machine at home, be sure to give the Winter Solstice a whirl.
Monogram Coffee “Figgy Pudding”
We blended washed Ethiopian coffee with oxygen-free Costa Rican coffee to create a seasonal coffee with wonderful notes of dried fruit and warming spices. It’s balmy, cozy and perfect for the holidays.
Coffee Monogram “Trifle”
Four different coffees have been layered (like a trifle!) to create a unique brewing experience where the flavors will mix and change as they brew in the bag. If you enjoy the Trifle, you will be able to taste a hot, oxygen-free natural coffee, a fermented peach coffee, a delicious natural coffee with notes of strawberry yogurt, and a fermented grape coffee.
Who said half a coffee shop can’t also be a lot of fun? For Night Swim’s After Glow Half Café seasonal coffee, the Charlotte roaster combined two naturally processed Ethiopian varieties, Mensur Ahabika Natural and Halo Hartume EA Decaf, from Jimma and Yirgacheffe, respectively.
Festive. Refreshing. Warming. This year’s holiday blend from Olympia Coffee does all this and more, backed by flavor notes of citrus, maple and pine. It’s a cozy Christmas tableau in a cup, from the Christmas tree to the roaring fire.
Okay, but does every vacation coffee have to be a blend? You might want to sneak one source in there and see if anyone notices. And Framily by Onyx Coffee Lab is just the thing to complement your blended wardrobe. A medium-roasted, washed Ethiopian coffee from Banko Gotiti combines cocoa notes with aromas reminiscent of blueberry cobbler, ripe apricot, raisins, and even a touch of Earl Grey tea to keep things compelling. It works just as well black as it does with cream and sugar. Or check out their Krampus if the family needs something more developed.
London-based Origin Coffee Roasters is based on the classic combination of chocolate and citrus. Their festive blend brings you a cup full of orange, chocolate, marzipan and hazelnuts thanks to a combination of washed and naturally processed coffees from the Congo washing station in Ethiopia and Beto Santana in Brazil.
A perennial favorite, this year’s “Miracle” from Partners Coffee of Brooklyn not only tastes good, it works well too. Every purchase supports the farmgate initiative in Burundi in partnership with Kahawat Foundation. Inside you’ll find washed coffees from Burundi and Colombia, offering flavors inspired by mulled wine and merlot.
I can’t beat PERC for a copy of the Christmas mix. Here’s what they have to say about this year’s holiday mix, shared in full:
“The dreaded Frost Gobbler is here, chasing her favorite treat, gingerbread men. She’ll catch unlucky gingers, tear them apart, and eat them with her horrible teeth. The last thing you’ll hear as she runs out of town is her horrible laugh, moohoohaha.”
The smoking team has been in the shop, tinkering, mixing a little of this and a little of that. Now the team has come up with the perfect concoction. It’s silky and sweet, with the perfect smoky note that will please everyone in the family, even the grinchiest grinch and the meanest miser. Merry Christmas to all!”
Here’s a little secret: we love Indonesian coffees here at Sprudge. How wonderful to see Stumptown’s Indonesia Bies Penantan in this year’s Evergreen mix, alongside the charming Colombia Huayk. Look for notes of chocolate, citrus and tonka bean.
A 50/50 blend of Guatemala Augusto Castillo and Mexico Macario Garcia, Sweet Bloom’s Winter Bloom is a sweet, balanced drink that pleases the crowd in a cup. The chocolatey, fuller flavor of Winter Bloom has notes of fig jam, Toblerone, and a sweet toffee finish.
Combining fruity, naturally processed Ethiopia with floral-washed Peru, Tandem’s annual blend is a “fruit cake in a cup.” Flavor notes include sugar plums, fig pudding and open-roasted chestnuts.
Why mess with a good thing? Dallas’ Tweed Coffee certainly doesn’t. For the third year in a row, they haven’t touched on the ingredients in the Cheer blend. 70% Toliman, Guatemala blends with 30% Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia for a coffee with flavors of milk chocolate, toffee, and dried fruit.
Three coffees, three countries, one distinct blend that evokes “warmth and fantasy” – Verve’s 2023 holiday edition has it all. Enjoy coffees from El Salvador, Ethiopia and Kenya with notes of pluot and honey wine, perfect for the holiday table.
