About Mr. Espresso
Founded in 1978, Mr. Espresso is a specialty coffee roaster that stays true to Italian coffee culture and the roots of founder Carlo Di Ruocco, while innovating to inspire the next generation of coffee lovers. In keeping with the sensibilities of the current coffee consumer, Mr. Espresso is committed to responsible sourcing, sustainable production and investing in the community. Offering wholesale coffee beans, top-quality commercial brewing equipment, and service and training support, Mr. Espresso made a name for itself as one of the first full-service coffee roasting retailers in the U.S. and has since become a trusted supplier to notable restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries and coffee shops throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and the country. In addition, Mr. Espresso has expanded its online presence and grown its retail customer base well beyond the Bay Area.
For the production of all his Mr. coffees. Espresso uses the conventional Italian wood burning technique. This method results in high moisture content and increased retention of natural oils, producing a convoluted and full-bodied coffee with less acidity. In its long history, Mr. Espresso has received numerous highly rated reviews and accolades and is a two-time winner of the Good Food Awards for organic single origin coffees. In 2023, Mr. Espresso opened a branded coffee shop in downtown Oakland, near the roastery. The company continues to be family-owned, and Carl’s wife, Marie, and her three adult children keep Mr. Espresso’s legacy sturdy.
