BERLIN, GERMANY – JANUARY 24: Freshly roasted espresso coffee beans chilly in a renovated 1918 Probat roaster at Bonanza Coffee Roasters on January 24, 2011 in Berlin, Germany. Bonanza founder Kiduk Reus is one of a growing number of so-called third-wave artisanal coffee roasters who are finding a niche market in Europe and the U.S. for his carefully crafted and priced coffee. Reus says the cast iron parts, snail-paced roasting capability and manual controls of his Probat flame roaster allow him to extract the most flavor from his carefully selected beans. Food & Wine magazine has released its list of the best coffee roasters in each state for 2022. California’s top pick offers much more than just roasting and brewing coffee beans.
Santa Cruz-based Cat & Cloud brings “an infectious passion to the entire business, from farm to cup,” magazine I’m writing.
There are four locations you can go and buy freshly roasted coffee beans to take home:
For those not in Santa Cruz, Cat & Cloud ships every business day.
According to Food & Wine, Cat & Cloud has “a model to follow from start to finish,” and it’s a model it’s eager to share with coffee connoisseurs.
In addition to making coffee, Cat & Cloud also has a robust online presence – the founders have a background in blogging that they have brought to their coffee business, sharing what they have learned about the industry since they started.
“Every coffee that comes in our doors has already lived a life before it gets to us, and that’s something to celebrate.” – Co-Founder Chris Baca he said in one of his podcasts.
The magazine recommends trying Cat & Cloud’s Costa Rica Finca Edgar Honey, but coffee roasters also have Recommendations depending on your preferred brewing method, whether you want to make espresso, icy brew coffee, drip coffee or pour-over coffee.
