Coffee guide in Hanoi, Vietnam

Hanoi is not recent in coffee. In fact, this can even be called the unofficial coffee center in Vietnam.

French introduced Coffee to Vietnam in the mid -nineteenth century. Vietnam took it and did it his own, shaping his own coffee culture. Yes, we are talking about those brave, earthy, sturdy stalwart brewed Phin. During the war and uncertainty, when the inhabitants were tough to get fresh coffee milk, they turned to the sweetened condensed milk and created the legendary Vietnamese frozen coffee. In the capital, Hanoans replaced milk with whipped egg yolk and sugar, which caused the famed egg coffee in the city, now served almost everywhere.

Today, Vietnam is the second largest coffee producer in the world, and life in capital seems to be around this caffeine drink. The locals in their office respond to petite red and blue plastic stools that spill sidewalks, sipping coffee, sitting next to the strangers pho early in the morning. These sturdy, sweetened infusions of the Finn filter are still the basic part of the Coffee culture in Vietnam.

Recently, however, a recent sleeve of ambitious 3rd wave cafe appears in this living city over eight million people (larger than Modern York). Homemade barists now offer fields, bake from a single -origin beans from national heights and obtaining specialized mixtures from around the world. Some of them combine tradition with modernity and invent recent, creative ways to serve the popular local robusta.

This is our second coffee guide after Hanoi, a city that is still evolving in the coffee department.

This coffee 3

During my search for a recent generation of baristas and special coffee places, I came across This coffee 3 by chance. Located on Hang Thiec, one of 36 alleys of the elderly district of the capital, this petite cafe-coffee initiative from Farm-to-p-with with two other sales points in Hanoi-non-competitively “fancy”. You can easily pass by, thinking that this is one of these hundreds of cafe on the street, but it provides one of the best coffees in the Vietnamese capital with affable service. Pull up a petite stool and sit on the pavement – yes, everyone does it in Hanoi – as a goldsmith around you, cut, shape, shape and polish them.

My ginger coffee based on espresso attracted completely white New Era Altea He was fresh and completely rounded, affable from the ubiquitous sweetened coffee drinks in Vietnam. But if you are still looking for something local, their yogurt coffee, which I later tried, is unique. A few petite shelves store beans from various regions of Vietnam, and talkative barists can assist you choose everything that matches your palate.

For almost seven years, Dream Bean Parosal coffee in the elderly district of the city, and now with the second mouth: a smaller cafe “Little Corner”. This independent, family cafe is so cozy that it is a place where the strangers meet, talk and become friends. In their main ward with three -story, home -made plants and hot, earthy tones, you will also see their internal roaster.

Dream Beans acquires their coffee from all over the country. Their Sweet Dreams design includes featherlight roasted mixtures with fruit and acidic notes, perfect for frosty infusions or fields. The son of La from the northern mountains in Vietnam, specialized by honey, is particularly popular, with sweet, fine notes of seeds, lime and herbal tea. Others in the offer are medium roasted beans with a single origin, Arabica is combined with featherlight acidity and Robusta coffee with notes of shadowy chocolate, usually brewed using Phin or Moka.

In their second cafe, I touched the mixtures of espresso Dalat/Son la Arabica, cappuccino with oat milk: subtly acid, nut and caramelized. Despite their involvement in high -quality coffee and international standards, Dream Bean is also very rooted in Vietnamese tradition, with the famed Hanoi coconut coffee made of sweet condensed milk. They also make great matcha latte, mango and pineapple cocktails as well as cocoa yogurt drinks. To get food, look for sandwiches with peanut and banana butter.

Still a colorful cafe They come from the idea that despite the difficulties through which the person goes through, they still bring the goal, value. And that’s how they want their coffee to be. This petite bar with retro climate located on a vivid narrow street only a few blocks from the iconic cathedral of St. Józef, this minuscule retro brewery serves some well -made Hanoi coffee. It is cozy and relaxed with nippy music. You will often see groups of friends or people enjoying solo dates outside, working on laptops and sipping coffee.

Several local drinks in the menu include BAC XIUQuintessence Vietnamese coffee filtered with Finns made of chilled fresh milk, which attracts inspiration from French colonial times and comes from Saigon (HCMC) in the south of the country.

I also love their specializations: pineapple and lime soda; chocolate espresso with foam cream; Frigid infusion of whiskey and lemon.

Third wave

Third Outdoor Wave Nathan Mahendra

In recent years, most independent special Hanoi cafes will boost and progress. Third wave He is one of them. The founder of Trần Tuấn Linh, whose love of coffee led him to buy green beans from ebay, began a third wave as a petite roaster. Now it is on the side of the order of buildings from communist times outside the historic elderly brave of the capital. Choose a 30-minute walk south of Lake Hoan Kiem to the recent location of the cafe, where you will notice Sanremo Verona 3 on the side of the meter.

The beans of the third wave come from Vietnam and around the world: the central mountains of Vietnam is full of stalwart; Gesha Central America, which works well for hand breweries; Brazilian/Columbian/Ethiopian mix ideal for frosty infusions; and Laotian coffee with fruit, floral and caramel notes.

You can also choose from other NHUNG baked goods, such as croissants and chocolate pain. Cafe’s textbooks include an impressive list of, among others, V60, Melitta, Kalita and Chemex.

Whatever you choose, you will be rewarded. It’s just a really good place with good people serving great coffee.

Vulab specialty coffee

Vulab cafe nathan mahendra1

Pristine, contemporary and cozy. I would describe it this encouraging cafe Located in a hidden street on one of Hanoi’s quieter streets. The petite courtyard is particularly charming with domestic plants. Inside, the interior is featherlight with tiled floors, white and gray shades and elegant furniture.

In the bar, the owner and connoisseur of VU coffee – and his barists – always willingly gives you an emergency course about coffee, and even show how to brew coffee with a siphon. VU opened his cafe just over a year ago and treats it as a laboratory, so you’ll find that he always tries to introduce recent things to the menu.

During my first visit, I loved their apricot drips. They also have a low, but excellent seasonal menu, which offers years with pumpkin spices and frosty drops of mulberry. Aside conventional Finn, VU brings high -quality beans from Ethiopia, Colombia, Costa Rica and Guatemala. In the Espresso menu brewed with Sanremo youThis is Americano “Beer”, a drinking, drunk drink. To get something different, choose their latte matcha or cocoa, hibiscus and passionate or lemon oolong.
