Grounds for Health introduces a matching campaign to extend HPV testing in coffee communities

Pressure: The cost costs only 10 USD for the purchase of the HPV test kit, which offers a powerful path for early detection and prevention of cervical cancer.

Women are the majority of workforce in coffee communities. They grow, collect and sort beans that provide our delicious daily coffee. Due to the distant nature of these communities, many women have never received basic gynecological care, including HPV screening, which is the main cause of cervical cancer.

To strengthen the impact of this campaign, four industry leaders – Toni’s coffee, Swiss water, Royal Coffee and Royal Ny – joined forces to match every dollar transferred throughout May. This means that a donation of USD 10 will finance two HPV tests, doubled the number of women achieved.

“Supporting the basics for health has always been an simple decision for us. Their team is tiny, but so influential, and their work is more significant and necessary than ever,” said David Yake, director of sales and sustainable development at Tony’s Coffee.

In the case of recent disassembly of USAID programs, women are even more exposed to Ethiopia and Kenya. Health care systems in these countries are stressed and our services are more critical than ever.

HPV lonely turns into the game: it is effective, inexpensive and prudent, and allows women to take control of their health. The basics of health have provided this inventive screening method in their programs since 2021. Women have reacted well to technology, and GFH clinical teams are ready to check 6,000 consecutive women this summer, if the target $ 60,000 is achieved.

“This is an amazing opportunity for the coffee and coffee community to meet in tough times and make a physical difference,” said Kyle Engelman, executive director of Grounds for Health. “With the support of our partners and donors, we can reach more women, detect HPV earlier and finally prevent cervical cancer in places that need it the most.”
