She added that some research suggest that regular coffee consumption may be associated with a reduced risk of developing some types of cancer, Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease.

Health Risks of Drinking Coffee

This FDA lists 400 mg of caffeine per day “as an amount not typically associated with risky, negative effects.” However, its effects can vary from person to person and depend on how sensitive they are to caffeine and how quickly they can metabolize it.

Kearney said that the high Coffee consumption can lead to anxiety, digestive problems, muscle tremors, headaches, caffeine addiction, and calcium malabsorption. Excessive caffeine can raise your heart rate and blood pressure. It recommends that people with medical conditions such as heart problems, acid reflux, or anxiety disorders limit or avoid coffee. Pregnant women are advised to limit caffeine to 200 mg per day.

Caffeine can also have deadly consequences. The FDA estimates that rapid consumption of about 1,200 mg of caffeine can lead to toxic effects, such as seizures. At 200 mg per cup, that would be six cups of sturdy coffee. In 2023, Panera Bread was sued when a student with heart disease died after drinking its caffeinated drink Charged Lemonade.

So is drinking coffee every day vigorous?

Whether drinking coffee every day is “vigorous” ultimately depends on your individual health and how much you drink. “It depends on your individual tolerance for caffeine, your sensitivity to its effects and how quickly you metabolize it, but most people can safely consume it,” Kearney said.

As a low-calorie option, she recommends black coffee with a minimum amount of sugar, cream and flavourings.
