Coffee has become a real way to gain gainful employment for people at risk. We’ve seen this with formerly incarcerated people, at-risk youth, people struggling with mental health issues, people experiencing homelessness, and immigrants and refugees. This week in Fort Worth, Texas, a brand novel coffee event focuses on disadvantaged youth.
He is the host Coffee exchange in the city centerthe inaugural Youth Coffee Expo aims to provide “a career opportunity in the specialty coffee industry” for teenage people who may not realize they currently see it as a viable option.
It will take place on Thursday, October 17 at Can Texans AcademyThe theme of the first Youth Coffee Expo is “From Harvest to Cup: Cultivating a Career in Coffee for Kids” and will feature insights from industry leaders from across the state, representing a wide range of the supply chain. Guests include Eric Brenner, deputy director of Texas A&M University Coffee Research and Education Center; Rodrigo Chavez, owner What is Buzz Coffee Company; Gladys Lee, Hall of Fame coach and golfer and namesake of Gladys Lee Specialty Coffee; and Pastor Kyev Tatum, founder of Inner City Coffee Exchange.
As part of its mission to leverage specialty coffee as an income-generating vehicle, Youth Coffee Expo also aims to “stimulate the inner-city economy [by] introducing downtown residents to the world of specialty coffees.”
