In Gorongos, at the southern end of the great African valley of gaps in the heart of the central Mozambique, coffee breeders sing a song that melodically translates into “coffee for a better future”.
Here, at the top developed in the rainforest, women enter the forest in the morning, not to bring heating wood, but for coffee. This cultivation – foreign in these lands – is now growing under archaic green canopies, helping to reverse the degradation of ecosystems and creating the case of coffee bushes restoring the extended mountain area, which once celebrates many indigenous trees. In Mozambique, we can find a real live experiment in the possibilities and promise of agriculture supported by the community in coffee.
