[Shebedino, Ethiopia] — [February 23, 2026] — On International Women’s Day, March 8, Master Barista and renowned coffee leader Lem Butler connects the global coffee community 10 thousand for HER (Health, Equity, Resources)charity walk for the foundation Basics for healtha non-profit organization dedicated to preventing cervical cancer among coffee farmers. The 10km distance reflects the everyday reality of many women walking in rural Ethiopia five kilometers each way to reach health care. Although cervical cancer is almost completely preventable, Every two minutes, one woman dies from this disease around the worldmainly due to lack of access to screening and early treatment.
“Women are the backbone of the coffee industry,” Butler said. “They grow, harvest and process the coffee we depend on, and yet many of them walk hours to get to primary care. It’s about honoring that reality and turning solidarity into action.”
Proceeds from the walk will support Grounds for Health Ethiopia’s cervical cancer prevention programs, which provide education, screening and treatment in coffee-growing communities. The organization has achieved so far over a quarter of a million women around the world and celebrates its own 30th anniversary this year.
