Thank you, NECCST: modern manual grinder now on Kickstarter

A manual grinder is an integral part of every travel coffee set. While a hand grinder is generally appreciated for its compact, portable design, there is absolutely no reason why a hand grinder can’t also be your go-to for making coffee at home. Enter NECCSTa completely modern, manual tabletop grinder that will add an additional ritual to your morning coffee, and is now available on Kickstarter.

Perhaps the first thing you’ll notice about the NECCST is its similarity to another handheld bench grinder on the market, HG-2 by Weber Workshopsup to the coffee grounds shaker. Created by the München company based in Germany designer Fynn EcksteinThe NECCST grinder offers a more compact (to the immense, honking hand grinder) alternative, at a lower price. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t make huge promises to coffee lovers.

Featuring titanium-coated 48mm conical burrs (compared to the HG-2’s 83mm conical burrs), the high-quality aluminum and stainless steel NECCST is infinitely adjustable, allowing you to grind everything from espresso to French press. It also touts zero grind retention.

Even though the hand grinder is definitely more archaic, NECCST offers some newfangled technology options. Directly under the grinder there is an integrated scale that can be detached and serves as a brewing scale with an accuracy of 0.1 g.

With just over three weeks left in the campaign, NECCST has surpassed its $10,000 goal, having already earned $80,000. However, discounts are still available for potential sponsors. Customers can purchase their own manual grinder for 679 euros ($733), which is just over 25% off the retail price. For €819 ($884) you can buy a grinder with an integrated scale. Prize shipping is scheduled to begin in May 2025.

For more information or to support the campaign, visit the NECCST website Kickstarter page.
