In this exclusive episode, Coffee Sprudgecast celebrates the seventeenth anniversary of winning and receiving the Sprudgie Award, presented in partnership with the Pacific Barista Series.
Hosts Jordan Michelman and Zachary Carlsen get their strength up before getting in on the action with Valentine’s Day offer from Klatch Coffees and delightful Lemongrass tisane herb garden by DONA. Aphrodite N° 3, ground using a sturdy MiiR hand grinder and brewed in the renowned Ceado Hoop brewery, offers flavor notes appropriate for the season: subtle floral notes (elderflower, rose) and nuances of red berries. Garden Lemongrass Herbal Tisane, part of the amazing DONA Tea Tea Library Collectionit kept us grounded and lifted us into the air by the unique goodness of lemongrass.
And one more thing… we need to talk about these coffee and potato chips.
Seattle Umami Kushi—notable for his specimen Mrgreat snacks and delicious pop-ups – creates artisan-level potato chips that you can buy in their store. Umami Kushi joins forces with Boon Boona Coffee Roasters for coffee-flavored (but not forward) BBQ-flavored potato chips that are worth the trip to Rainier Beach.
The hosts crunch and chew chips, prepared with a carefully thought-out mixture of spices and the right amount of coffee. Coffee says “hey, I’m here, helping” instead of what it might sometimes do (“hey, look at me, look at me, LOVE ME, LOVE ME”). Zachary Carlsen boldly states that this is one of the best coffee snacks he’s ever had (and believe us, he’s had a lot of coffee snacks). Jordan Michelman suggests the classic school cafeteria trick of adding them to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. And guess what? We did.

Give Umami Kushi a sequel Instagram @umamikushi to learn more about their wonderful potato chips and where to find them – and thank you, thank you Umami Kushi for reaching out!
Perhaps the 18th annual Sprudgie Awards will finally include a “Best Coffee” category. We are looking at you, Umami Kushi, but also at cookies with delicious coffee – and we are definitely not looking at you,
