Vauxhall’s Mokka Coffee-E has a pop-up café at the rear

The pop-up cafe is a romantic affair. Running your own cafe whenever and wherever you want, the barista-troubadour. And with the advent of electric vehicles, the dream of a mobile cafe has fully entered the 21st century and is sure to attract attention (especially if it is an electric vehicle).

That’s definitely it Opel doing with his newest car. Coffee Mocha-E is the brand’s recent electric vehicle, equipped with a fold-out coffee-making station in the rear.

But before you start placing orders, the recent Mokka Coffee-E is just a one-time concept. As reported by Peasant!Vauxhall, under which Opel operates in the UK, a recent compact crossover that is part of Mocha line is armed to the teeth with everything you need for a pop-up café, including not one but two espresso machines, a milk frother, a grinder, a tap, and a fridge, all integrated into the trunk, or trunk as they call it. It also has a slide-out drawer full of barista tools: scales, tampers, filter holders, etc.

Whatever you think, there’s more to the concept than just the name (although that certainly had to play a part in that). According to Vauxhall managing director James Taylor, “three-quarters of EV drivers plan their journeys around a craving for coffee.” With the Mokka Coffee-E, you can stop and make yourself a coffee in the 30 minutes it takes to charge the battery from 0 to 80%. And if I know anything about home coffee machines, it’s that it takes longer than 30 minutes to get a good shot. Full battery, here I come.

But alas, it’s just a concept, but it’s strenuous not to consider the possibilities. Imagine buying a recent car straight out of the showroom, with a full coffee machine ready to be assembled in the back. Of course, I’d want to completely throw out all the equipment that came with it and put my own in. But still, for someone who doesn’t tinker, a ready-to-use coffee shop on wheels — that doesn’t hog the gas — would be pretty intriguing. I mean, I certainly wouldn’t mind getting a quick coffee from the person sitting next to me in traffic.
