Recently Opened Restaurants in the San Diego Area

Many families across the country have restaurant traditions, whether it’s returning to the same place year after year for a birthday, Sunday morning brunch at a favorite local restaurant, or Friday night for pizza at the local pizzeria.

While many diners enjoy visiting the same restaurants yearly, monthly or even weekly, others also want to try something fresh. Today’s consumers “are looking for fresh taste experiences that excite their palates and provide a break from their daily routines,” Stacey Kinkaid, vice president of product development and innovation at US Foods, said in a statement. “The trend of global flavors is indicative of this as diners seek discovery and escape from the everyday.”

US Foods, a major national distributor of foodservice, surveyed 1,000 people, reflecting the demographic makeup of the entire American population, about their habits related to eating out and ordering takeaway food. They found that the average person dines out about three times a month for a wide variety of reasons, from socializing to enjoying the atmosphere, from celebrating something special to avoiding the work of cooking (and cleaning up afterwards).

When it comes to the type of restaurants they most often dine at, casual dining restaurants top the list (62%), followed by quick food (57%) and quick casual (54%). Rounding out the top five are contemporary casual (32%) and bar and grill (25%).
