Coffee is wildly popular. This is known basically all over the world; It is not without reason that it is called “the most popular drink in the world”. And the popularity of coffee is growing. That’s something National Coffee Association regularly monitors and reports within its framework National Coffee Data Trends Report (NCDT). And from the latest installation, it seems that the most popular drink, more popular than water, is coffee, and honestly, I’m a little worried about everyone’s health.
The NCDT is a report that the NCA has published twice a year since 1950, making it the longest-running study of American coffee consumption habits. For the spring report, data was collected on 1,850 Americans ages 18 and older between January 5vol and 20vol regarding participants’ coffee habits.
When asked about their beverage consumption in the past day, they found that 66% of all participants drank coffee, which was higher than the 64% who said they drank bottled water. Tea, soda and juice accounted for 47%, 46% and 26% respectively.
Of those who drank coffee in the past, 85% said they drank it at home, the highest percentage since 2012, further supporting the idea of making coffee at home becoming more popular. 36% said they drink coffee outside the home.
When it comes to drinking coffee, looking at people who drank coffee in the last week, 62% said that they drank “time-honored” coffee, understood here as not special. Meanwhile, in the same group, the share of specialty coffee was 58%.
“Coffee has long been a touchstone in Americans’ daily lives and a driving force in our economy, adapting over time to different tastes, trends, budgets and routines,” says NCA President and CEO Bill Murray in press release. “We expect this to continue for many decades to come.”
Thus, coffee maintains its position in the NCDT 2025 report as consumed more often than water, which means that it is nice, but you should also drink more water. I’m worried about you. We all love coffee, but let’s remember about proper hydration.
