Ethiopian coffee brings record revenues

Coffee prices are now flowering. Arabica Coffee on the Futures Market consistently floated at the level of 3.50 USD per pound From the beginning of the year and in Ethiopia it has brought record revenues for the country.

As reported Light lightsEthiopian coffee exports have earned $ 1.87 billion in the last 10 months, exceeding the country’s goal by 142%.

The reasons for recording reflect the position of coffee as a global goods. One of the main factors, according to the article, is the lower performance of Brazil, the world leader in the production of Arabica. This enabled other countries, such as Ethiopia, to fill the gaps, which was particularly beneficial to the increased price of the C market.

However, there are also domestic factors, including the Ethiopia government that increases the support of miniature coffee breeders through “delivery expenditure, the latest irrigation systems and better infrastructure.”

Meanwhile, one of the biggest coffee trade in the future comes from the US government tariffs. But even for Ethiopia they look positive. America is the world’s largest coffee consumer, and the government applied higher tariffs to other producing countries – such as almost 50% of the Vietnam tariff – which could push more buyers to Ethiopian coffee, which generally brings a higher price, but in general it will be cheaper due to their lower tariff index.

But there are problems moving to Ethiopia. For example, the European Union has adopted provisions prohibiting the import of goods related to deforestation, which require producers to prove that their crops do not contribute to practice. This requires additional technology and infrastructure, to which many farmers from Ethiopia do not have access, which can alleviate their ability to sell EU coffee. They have until June 2026 to implement the mechanisms of tracking and proving that their cultivation does not come from extended soil.

Despite this, it was a banner for the production of Ethiopian coffee. And when the last five years have seen farmers around the world abandoning or are considering abandoning coffee growing in favor of more profitable crops, this is a positive return in the future of coffee.
