We head to Reno in our latest adventure, checking the novel location Hub Coffee Roasters. Hub is Linchpin on the Reno stage, this novel store with many bunk has a panache to lose-let’s take a closer look.
For those who are not familiar, will you tell us about your company?
Founded by Marek Trijillo, along with their two children, Joey and Jessica, the first location of the hub was opened in 2009 in a diminutive garage in the center of Reno to create a space that would promote their love for coffee and motorcycles, rooted in the community. While we have gone from this location, the original goal still informs about every mix, location and relationships that we build today. As one of the first special cafes in the area, since then we have opened three cafes that have the pleasure to see Reno coffee lovers, cyclists and community members.
Over the past 13 years, we have devoted coffee from seeds to a cup, cultivating relationships in coffee cultivation. From the owner of the Latin company to the random translator in Origin, to part of the owner of the farm, our founder established cooperation in three Colombian coffee farms: Finca Las Nubes, Las Veraneras and Monte Bonito. His real connections built in 2016 with Vicente Mejia and Rodrigo Sanchez in Colombia have evolved into a significant business venture. We are proud of the relationship with the community and we actively give away throughout the year through partnerships with organizations such as A well -known children’s hospital AND Nevada Athletics.
Can you tell us about a novel space?
The center began around coffee, community and motorcycles, and our motto was “we exist to collect people” both at the farm level and here in Reno. Our store was built with this in mind. With a roomy second floor, which can host up to 80 people, we wanted it to be a place for the community. This cafe quickly becomes a meeting place for the community in creating networks, company meetings and other events. Our concept of an open bar at the bottom allows customers to sit near barists, supporting the conversation. This store is brilliant and encouraging with industrial elements, such as steel, granite and concrete with greenery accents. We used lithe wood at the bottom to the shelves and tables to make it lithe and hospitable with gloomy wood at the top to get a cozy character. We want our stores to exude our slogan “Hub Means Nevada” reflected in our branding. On the walls we have a mountain nevada and we stick to palettes of desert -themed furniture and other decor. Golden accents can be seen in the whole store to reflect our philosophy “good as golden”, with which we run while baking and serving coffee. In the store you can see a bicycle decor, like our golden bicycle wheels, which develop larger windows at the bottom.
What is your coffee approach?
In Hub, we perceive coffee as a combination in Reno and Origin. When choosing green coffee, we prioritize relations with producers, such as those that we have with Luis Joquin Lovo and Mario Vilchez in Nicaragua. We also choose coffee based on varieties. The Caturra variety, for example, preferably bakes in a low deprivation and atmosphere at a high height, which we have here in Reno, Nevada. Our goal is coffee with minimal defects and a minimal result of 85 points. With so many cafes and cups in the Reno region, we like to look for coffee with unique features so that our coffee offers are different.
Over the past few years, we have experimented with many coffees co -financing, in which in our stores it contains them on espresso, drop and cool infusion. We love to share them with our clients, because it is a starter of conversations and the opportunity to share more about what is happening at the farm level and how these coffees are in the cup.
Any machines, coffee, special equipment set up?
