Fellow Stagg EKG kettles get an update with the new Pro series

When it comes to pouring hot water over coffee, Stagg EKG colleague is a popular option in the specialty coffee segment, found on countertops at home and in upscale coffee shops around the world. Now, Fellow has announced an update Stagg ECG Pro a line of kettles with lots of cool improvements (and one maybe stupid one).

Building on the success of the original Stagg EKG, the San Francisco-based fellow has made a few changes to improve everyday usability, while also adding a few new features for those willing to go deeper down the rabbit hole. Perhaps the biggest addition—or at least the one I’m most excited about as an early morning coffee brewer—comes from the new scheduled brewing feature. The Pro Series now lets users program a specific time for the water to reach a set temperature. With the new feature, you’ll no longer have to manually start the kettle in the morning; you can simply set it up the night before and wake up ready to brew. And when the kettle reaches the right temperature, a fun sound lets you know it’s ready.

Fellow has also made a few changes to address one issue that many users have experienced with previous ECG models: lid leakage. Users can now set the brew height, which affects the boiling point of the water, thereby preventing hot water from escaping from the vents in the lid. The lid itself will also be improved with a “new curved slot vent” and a lid seal that prevents water from dripping from the top while pouring.

Other new features include multiple language options (English, French and Spanish), customizable kettle hold times and a high resolution full color screen. The Pro Series also features a Guide Mode where users can pre-set different brewing parameters/temperatures to easily switch between them.

And there is also wifi. I mean, I know everything has wifi these days, so why wouldn’t your kettle have it too, but I don’t know. That said, wifi will allow you to update the kettle’s firmware via the app, so that’s probably nice. I just need it to warm up and pour well. As with everything IoT related, YMMV.

The EKG Pro Series retails for $195. And if you want to splurge, there’s also an all-new Studio Edition available for $225 with a mirrored glass base and optional walnut accents ($255).

The Fellow Stagg ECG Pro and Pro Studio series are currently available for pre-order via the Fellow website. For more information or to book your own, visit Fellow’s official website.
