All About Coffee, a page-by-page podcast, is as ambitious as it sounds

There’s no shortage of high-quality coffee podcasts vying for your ears. We’re partial to our own Coffee Sprudgecast , but it’s certainly not the only one in the medium that deserves your attention. You don’t have to look any further than the Sprudgie Awards’ Best Coffee Podcast category over the years to get your plate full.

But if your day lasts longer than 24 hours and you need something to fill it, we’ve got a recent podcast for you, one with a scope so bold and comprehensive that it’s sure to keep you entertained for the rest of the time. All About Coffee, Podcast Page by Page this is a recent podcast CovoyaMike Ferguson took the long route of reading William Harrison Uckers’ classic book on coffee, page by page.

Published over 100 years ago, the 800-page compendium is a pioneering text in the coffee world, covering a wide range of coffee-related topics. From history and lineage to economics, chemistry and even etiquette, it showcases Ukers’s exhaustive love of coffee from both his academic and enthusiastic sides.

And there’s probably no better person in the business to take on the challenge of podcasting such a daunting tome than Ferguson. A gifted yarn weaver and historian of the century-old book, Ferguson won’t be rushing the sprawling project. Part book-on-tape, part podcast, and part director’s commentary, All About Coffee, a Page by Page Podcast takes it “one page, one paragraph, one sentence, one rabbit hole at a time,” with lead storyteller Covoyi looking to expand on the book, providing additional context and insights to bridge the gap between 1922 and today. “Whatever it takes to get through the 800-plus pages of what was arguably the most critical book about coffee of the 20th century,” Ferguson says of the podcast.

Hi Stock marketThe Covoya coffee podcast network, which includes industry-focused titles like Ristretto and Another Cup, All About Coffee, the Page by Page podcast, has released its first episode, and in true slow-burn style, it hasn’t even made it to page one. The podcast’s first voyage is about “biography, background, and introductory material,” the stuff in the book before the first chapter begins.

In an era of short-form content, where media lengths continue to shrink to fit our ever-diminishing attention spans, it’s refreshing to see someone moving in the opposite direction, aggressively. Will Ferguson make it to the end? Only time (a lot of time) will tell. But this is a podcast that’s clearly more interested in the journey than the destination. And you can enjoy the journey.
