For the land, for the people, for the art, and of course, for the coffee. These and other compelling appeals to customers have been echoing this year from modern coffee shops up and down the West Coast.

Along with the rise of established brands, a number of startups have also emerged, making 2022 an exhilarating year for specialty coffee across the Pacific. Continuing our look at 2022, here are 10 eye-catching ribbon-cuttings we documented across California, Oregon, and Washington:

Los Angeles Multi-Roaster Cafe Owners Kumquat Coffee They opened a second coffee shop in Los Angeles called Quince coffeeLike the fruits they are named after, both are delicious and may look and sound similar, but underneath the surface they are practically apples and oranges.

Halfway between Seattle and Portland, Oregon, in a town full of historic buildings, a modern company has sprung up called Mint City Coffee Roasting is a pioneer of the local coffee movement.

In the coastal town of Rockaway Beach, Oregon, the popularity of high-quality coffee is growing rapidly, thanks to the recent opening of Rockaway Roastery.

An international team of specialty coffee professionals with a mission to support regenerative agriculture have planted the flag for Futura Coffee Roastery in the Montavilla neighborhood of Portland, Oregon.

Southern California Coffee Plantation Owner Bluetail Coffee Grove opened a coffee shop, roastery, beer and wine bar in San Diego called Breakers Coffee + Wine.

Seattle-based company’s fourth retail coffee shop Anchorhead Coffee opened in the city’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, occupying a two-story, 4,300-square-foot space with an on-site bakery.

A modern coffee shop in the St. Johns neighborhood of Portland, Oregon called Wonderwood Springs opened as a story, bringing to life high-quality coffee and engaging art under the guidance of a local artist Mike Bennett.

The inspiration came partly from the Californian landscape, as well as the subway line that has connected Culver City to downtown Los Angeles since 2012. The free-form, playful interior features long stripes of color that stretch across the bar’s façade, while horizontal tiles on the interior walls add dynamics.
