I don’t want to mention this “back in my day,” but back in my day, if you had $400 to spend on a grinder, you bought a Baratza and you were grateful for it. That’s not to say that Baratza doesn’t produce high-quality products, quite the contrary, but the point is that it was pretty much the only game in town for the home user. Rapid forward a few years, which honestly aren’t your thing, and the home grinder market has exploded with options at every price point. Kids these days just don’t realize how good they have it.
Example: G64 z Hebrew. The all-new grinder is packed with features that even commercial options didn’t have 10 years ago is now available on Kickstarter.
The 64 mm stainless steel flat burr grinder features, among other things, stepless grinding adjustment, a variable speed motor, a double anti-static coating to reduce coffee retention and an knowledgeable bellows hopper design with airflow that removes any diminutive coffee pieces from the chute. (It’s kind of like Whack-A-Mole, except there’s only one thing you whack, and the mole is the miniature coffee bits.) The chute is designed to work equally well with a grind catcher and a 58mm portafilter.
For those looking for even more of a grinder, Hibrew is also releasing a G64 Plus version. Expands the features of the base model, including flat 64mm titanium-coated burrs, as well as a larger range and velvety motor speed adjustment. The G64 has three regulation speeds: 1200, 1400 and 1600 rpm. The G64 Plus offers a speed range from 600 to 1,600 rpm, with the lower speed range better suited to lighter roasts. Hibrew claims that the brushless motor in the G64 Plus is also quieter, and the brushed motor in the standard G64 and has a longer life.
With over a month left, the Kickstarter campaign has surpassed almost 10 times its $5,000 goal. Nevertheless, discounts are available for all potential sponsors. There are very early bird deals for both the G64 and G64 Plus, the former is $329, which is 18% off the $399 MSRP, and the latter is $399, $100 off the $499 MSRP. Awards are expected to begin in January 2026.
The home grinder market is a crowded field that continues to grow. For more information or to support the campaign, visit the website Hibrew G64 Kickstarter page.
