Philz Coffee pulls out of DC metro market

Citing “business conditions,” the San Francisco-born Philz Coffee announced it was leaving the Washington, D.C. metro market. In a tweet, the company said, “We have loved serving this community, but business conditions and our desire to provide the best possible experience for our customers have led us to make this decision. We thank everyone for your years of support.”

The upcoming closure of the Navy Yard store follows at least five other closures in the D.C. metro area in the past two years. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, Philz continues to operate cafes in Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County (Calif.), San Francisco, and Chicago.

MiiR creates a up-to-date stainless steel jug

A consumer goods company MIR has unveiled a up-to-date Chemex-shaped brewing container that also doubles as a sturdy jug. The double-walled, stainless steel, vacuum-insulated jug is designed to work with the MiiR digital coffee scale. The company has over $51,000 raised for the device via Kickstarter.
