High base impact: BYHEALTH first-quarter sales hit by lower demand for immune health products​​

Chinese dietary supplement giant BYHEALTH reported a nearly 15% drop in revenue in the first quarter, mainly due to reduced demand for products supporting immune system health compared to the same period last year.

The decline also affected the company’s other flagship brands.

Another reason for lower revenues, according to BYHEALTH, was increased investment in promotional activities.

The company said 2024 is the start of a recent three-year plan in which it plans to focus on strengthening its technology and brand strategies by bringing recent products to market backed by science.

A ‘longevity’ coffee product containing NMN, quercetin, ashwagandha, alpha-ketoglutarate and other ingredients aims to tap the lucrative Chinese market.

The product is the brainchild of tech entrepreneur Kevin Yang and biomedical scientist Dr. Avi Roy, and is marketed under the brand UDA – also low for UnDoAge.

Rather than designing a supplement, the company believes it makes more sense to incorporate anti-aging ingredients into coffee, since many people reach for it first thing in the morning.

‘The Right Time’: Unilever’s Liquid IV capitalises on China’s growing electrolyte drinks sector​​

Unilever says the launch of its Liquid IV hydration drink brand in China earlier this year came at the “right time”, citing the recent rapid growth in the electrolyte drinks sector in the country as a key factor.

Products are sold via cross-border e-commerce at Tmall Global and Douyin (TikTok) flagship stores.

Scientists in China say folic acid supplementation during pregnancy can reduce the risk of birth defects.

Perinatal folic acid supplementation is a primary preventive measure against congenital malformations, particularly neural tube defects (NTDs). Early randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and cohort studies have highlighted the effectiveness of this intervention, but there is still a need for an informed understanding of the benefits of folic acid supplementation in primary care.

Therefore, this prospective cohort study provides an optimal platform to assess the protective effect of folic acid supplements taken during the perinatal period, providing valuable information to public health decision-makers in formulating strategies to improve birth outcomes and child quality of life.

Omega-3 fatty acids may assist achieve desired blood sugar levels among diabetics, study in China​​

According to Chinese research, a daily intake of 0.4 g of omega-3 fatty acids can assist more than 95% of diabetics achieve their desired blood sugar levels.

The results indicated that with increasing omega-3 fatty acid intake, there was a dose-dependent decrease in HbA1c levels. HbA1c is the average blood glucose level over the previous two to three months.
