Ducati just made a $3,000 coffee machine that only works with coffee capsules

I don’t know what it is about motorcycles and coffee makers that creates the need for cross-pollination, but it is very real. we saw motorcycle-themed cafescoffee machines mounted on the side of motorcycles, and even coffee machines made from motorcycle engines. But this latest entry into the espresso bike canon is something much sillier.

Motorcycle manufacturer Ducati he just built his own $3,000 coffee maker and it only works with pods.

As reported Peasantit’s called Limited edition Barista M3 1926 and was created in cooperation with Switzerland Culinary barista. It combines technological advances not often afforded in capsule coffee machines with the elegant design of Ducati. In other words, we’re dealing with a attractive mess. Circumscribed to just 1,926 pieces, this black espresso machine features a glowing red back panel with “Ducati” lettering and carbon fiber panels. It is advertised as “the world’s only carbon fiber capsule machine.” It is a very elegant looking machine.

The filterless coffee maker allows users to choose brewing temperature, flavor profile (airy, standard, and forceful), and pre-brew settings, exactly the level of control that most speed- and convenience-oriented capsule coffee machine users desire. He also has not one, but two ways to steam milk, because why not. There is a conventional steam wand that you usually see on a coffee machine. There’s also what they call “the world’s first milk frother in a cup.” Using the provided steel to-go cup, users add milk and then place it in the cup holder-like space on top. The machine will then exploit heat induction and a frother to whip the milk to the desired froth, from sizzling froth, both sizzling and broad, to chilly froth.

There is also an app, because everything must have an app.

All this means is that it doesn’t make sense. Or rather, the impression it gives is of the “more money than…” variety. We’re talking about a $3,000 coffee machine that uses only coffee pods. Want to drink capsules for their convenience, be my guest. But if you really care about the quality of the coffee you drink – enough to drop $3,000 on an espresso machine – then you may have outgrown the coffee-making philosophy that puts convenience above all else.

It’s challenging to describe exactly the type of uncanny valley of money vs. taste/privilege vs. the knowledge it would take to put a limited-edition Barista M3 1926 on the counter. Indeed, many of the comparisons and metaphors surrounding the marriage of Ducatti technology, its $3,000 price tag, and the requirement to exploit only coffee pods in the fresh equipment have been unclear in our editorial processes over the past few days. So here are some analogies that might better explain what the hell is actually going on here.
