San Diego-based Nostalgia Coffee Roasters Commits to Change and Supporting Women

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A few years ago, Taylor Fields was standing in a different room, doing a different job.

She used to be a certified public accountant. Now she is an entrepreneur doing what she loves.

“I was just fascinated by the science, art, taste and aromas of coffee,” Fields says.

However, the path to this career change was not simple.

“Starting your own business… being a lesbian… none of it is simple. Life has never been simple,” she says.

But Fields wasn’t determined to just make things work. She wanted to create change—something she says sets her company, Nostalgia Coffee Roasters, apart from the rest.

“We’re really using coffee as a catalyst for systemic change towards a more equitable, inclusive, diverse and sustainable coffee industry,” he says.

The more she learned about the principles of brewing coffee from start to finish, the more she began to notice the challenges other women faced.

“Only 15% of the world’s coffee farms are owned by women, but 99% of the coffee is grown by women,” Fields says.

That’s why her company strives to collaborate with other women and invests financial resources to fulfill this mission.

“We will forever give 5% of our revenue directly to producers, no matter what. No matter what we do, we have to make up for the inequities that have happened,” Fields says.

Fields hopes that as she grows her business of brewing high-quality coffee from beans sourced from around the world, her story will inspire a younger generation of girls to fight for what they believe in.

“We can do anything and follow our passion,” she says. “Do what makes you content and you’ll be successful no matter what.”
