Send us your spooky Halloween coffee story!

WHISTLE! Now that you’re officially full of fear, take advantage of that feeling of dread and write some spooky coffee fiction! As is our annual tradition, Sprudge will be publishing original coffee scare stories in the week leading up to Halloween. We want to read your stories – and publish them.

It’s one of our favorite times of the year, when we read coffee stories that spark creativity (and send shivers down our spines). The topic is entirely up to you, as long as it involves coffee. No matter what makes your coffee shiver, whether it’s quick horror stories or stories that are frightening because of their reality, we want to read it. Applications can be submitted until Sunday, October 20.

No previous writing experience is required. We don’t need your CV to include your story in this year’s celebrations, and some of our favorite stories come from people who have worked with Sprudge for the first time. Trade Secret by Levi Rogers and Extreme Measures by Olivia Laskowski are just two such brilliant examples. You too can etch your name in blood with industry leaders such as Michelle Johnson, Mike Ferguson, Nathanael May, Ever Meister and Eric J. Grimm, who have participated in our annual horror series.

Overall, we will choose three original stories from three standout writers this year, based on how fun and scary they are to read – and whether they fit our haunted vision for this year’s week of spooky content. Aim for around 1,000 words, but don’t focus too much on the numbers. Tell your story in the best way possible, but a 3,000-word story will have to be good to be accepted.

In addition to living in infamy in the spooky halls of Sprudge Halloween Fiction, winning entries will also receive a $100 honorarium. That’s a lot of Snickers Bar Lattes. Check out some of our original Halloween fiction from almost 10 years ago for inspiration.
