Espresso comes to business classes on some American Airlines flights

Competition season is in full swing, which means for many coffee people it’s also travel season. Raleigh-Durham, Houston, Geneva, Jakarta, Milan, Oh, the places you go for coffee. And luckily for some, there may be a little extra coffee on the way, as American Airlines is bringing back espresso service on some of its flights.

As reported MSNAmerican Airlines will offer “specialized coffee drinks made in a real espresso machine” that will be available upon request. American previously served espresso on board select flights, but discontinued the service during the Covid-19 pandemic. But with his return, the American is expanding his availability.

Before it was discontinued, AA only offered espresso drinks in “true first class cabins” on its Airbus A321T and Boeing 777-300ER fleet. Now the espresso service is to be provided on board all American Boeing 787S aircraft, as well as Boeing 777-200, Boeing 777-300, 787 and A321T aircraft. These aircraft are generally used for American and premium international flights. And for the first time, espresso is available to business class passengers.

Of course, this means you have to be business class, which not everyone does, and you have to be okay with espresso from a machine whose quality is always suspect. But I’m a staunch believer that the best place to drink bad coffee is on an airplane. Maybe it’s the altitude – it makes tomato juice taste good, so it’s not the wildest theory – but I crave this charred bitter mess every time I’m a mile high. I guess for me at least the real question is who will be sitting in the business class and will you send me an espresso from the back of the plane?
