Dogwood & The Get Down joins forces for the sweet Renaissance Coffee Academy

Derena coffee AND Get Down Coffee Share the unique relationship. Within 10 years in Cahoots Dogwood he began as a mentor for other minneapolitan, offering Get Down and its founder Houston White professionals, as well as time on the roast, while the modern brand won the feet. Five years later, and Get Down opened its own cafe with its own baking space, and brands became more similar to siblings.

Now they are working again with another ambitious modern project. Sweet Renaissance Coffee Academy is a non-profit organization “devoted to increasing the cultural representation behind the bar and outside [by] Ensuring training for aspiring baristas, mentoring and business solutions for emerging roaster. ”

SRCA, created by Dana and Angie Anderson from White and Dogwood, offers a 30-hour paid residence is a practical training and career mentor program, providing people in the fundamental skills of a barista and knowledge about coffee required to work behind the bar. The program is open to anyone who is part of an insufficiently represented group as a way of “strengthening the local workforce and extension of the representation in the coffee industry”, in accordance with the press message.

“When cafes lose their staff, it means that they will have open changes that require range in two weeks. A series of employing those who already have experience, unfortunately consolidates obstacles for insufficiently represented people trying to break into the industry,” said Dan Anderson. “We are working on disturbing this by providing practical training and resources necessary for a career in the coffee industry.”

As part of the total approach, along with barista training, SRCA also offers a stay program for people who want to bake coffee, including learning trade and access to resources and markets “needed to establish their brands”.

To finance their efforts, SRCA runs a white edition baking program, but they are actively looking for modern partnerships with cafes, roasts and other companies that share their mission. People who want to contribute can be given directly to efforts through their website Here.
