Two burrs? You mean potatoes? NO! This is the modern Momentum hand grinder

You know those burr grinders that are like two burr grinders, you know? Yesterday we brought you news of AeroPress producing the first manual grinder that fits snugly into the piston of the AeroPress brewer. Today, another modern manual grinder hits the market, with great emphasis on taste. Momentum brand hand grinder I’m not a barista is a dual burr grinder that is intended to give users more precise control over the flavor of their coffee, and it does live now on Kickstarter.

This is the third version of the Momentum manual grinder, which saw success in a crowdfunding campaign in 2022. The premise is essentially that grinding is best done in two steps: one involves initially grinding the coffee into smaller pieces, followed by a finer grind.

In the Momentum model, the coffee initially passed through a 28 mm conical burr, which the campaign says determines the flavor profile. Using a sound system analogy, “I’m Not A Barista” describes it as adjusting the volume. This is the pre-breakup phase. The ground grains then become larger, conical with a diameter of 36 mm, allowing for a finer grind, which is an equalizer that sets the tone, continuing the analogy.

Both sets of burrs are externally adjustable to further fine-tune the grind level.

In addition to the burrs, Momentum includes a number of other thoughtful features to enhance usability and experience. The catcher cup in which the grind is divided into double (or quadruple) as a blind shaker, sifter and magnetic knocker to remove all the beans from the grinder. The crank arm length can be adjusted from 13cm to 16cm for better leverage and easier grinding. The push-button crank knob comes in various ergonomic shapes. Batch 3 increases the overall capacity of previous versions to a maximum of 30 g.

With just over three weeks left in the campaign, Momentum has far exceeded its $1,990 goal. Interested backers can still get the Momentum for $499, which is $50 less than the MSRP. Awards are expected to begin in February 2026.
