Scenery Coffee won the Sprudgie – now they’re on the Coffee Sprudgecast

In the 175 episodes of the Coffee Sprudgecast, only a few are truly committed and sincerely focused on this most vital concept: Taste proof. And in the latest episode we reach 100 proofs of taste. Only flavors count. Only the best brew will do this. Are you on the list? Are you ready to prove your taste once and for all?

On this week’s episode of Coffee Sprudgecast, hosts Jordan Michelman and Zachary Carlsen start by making coffee using a gorgeous ceramic Wandola that was thrown away, glazed and burned in Costa Rica. Then we dive into the world Landscape Coffeethe London-based coffee company that has just won top honors in the Notable Roaster category at the 17th annual Sprudgie Awards. Experimental processing, conventional brewing methods, coffee and coffee equipment from near and far: this episode really has it all… and even more!

A little more about this amazing ship you see above, courtesy of Coffee Balam who sent us their beautiful Vandola coffee maker designed by Minor Alfaro Alpízar with their Alfaro Master Roast a blend of Catuai and Caturra coffees grown and processed on the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica. Together they created a wonderful, velvety and pretty brew. Coffee Balam donates five percent of its income to support cultural preservation projects in the Chorotega community.

Trying out this brewer and roaster combo was a complete surprise to us, and we were thrilled that such a cold idea came via Sprudge’s general contact form. If you’re reading on Sprudge Land and have something awesome you’d like to submit for us to consider for a future pod, please get in touch!

Meanwhile, Scenery Coffee took top honors in the worldwide Sprudgie Awards voting and was kind enough to send along a few coffees to sample at Sprudge HQ, which impressed everyone on the Sprudge team. This week we brewed two of their wonderful coffees—India Ratnagiri Estate LAB-6 AND Costa Rica Sacred Heart of Jesus “Los Toños” Java— and I spent time learning more about both (Scenery’s website is excellent). This week we brewed these coffees using Miir manual coffee grinder, brewer Miir Pourigami, some Acaia Pearl coffee scaleand enjoyed Two-way cups with slow pouring.

Ultimately, the taste was well and truly proven. Because that’s what it’s all about. We really can’t say this enough. It’s about…
