This coffee machine produces water from air

CES 2025 it came and went, and as it increasingly did, coffee had a significant presence. Which I guess makes sense, coffee machines are technically consumer electronics. Most of the fresh coffee tech on display at CES is something along the lines of a sweaty AI shoehorn or a 7-minute cool brew abs workout. There are still frigid things premiering at this event. Like, say, a cute kitten hanging off the side of a coffee mug and blowing on it to frigid it down. And then there it is Kara capsule“the world’s first self-filling coffee machine” that draws water from the air.

Created by Water KaraKara Pod was honored with the CES Innovation Awards 2025 in the home appliances category. As reported TechRadarKara Pod isn’t alchemy, nor is it an entirely fresh technology, although it appears to be a first for the coffee space. A coffee maker essentially works like a dehumidifier, taking water from the air and condensing it into a liquid. Once condensed, the water is purified using “a combination of heat, UV lightweight and replaceable filters.”

Kara Pod claims to be able to extract up to 13 cups of water from the air every 24 hours, which can then be consumed as filtered water or used to make coffee.

Of course, as the name suggests, the fresh coffee system is based on capsules, which is a bit problematic, both in terms of coffee quality and environmental friendliness. Although Kara Pod uses “fully compostable eco-friendly coffee pods made from plant fibers.” Although no information is provided about the coffee, which is probably all the information you really need.

Nevertheless, the technology used is intriguing and can certainly find further, more useful applications in the coffee industry. No release date or price has been announced for Kara Poda yet. More information can be found on Kara Water’s website official website.
